Jason Dunford wins Men’s 100m butterfly title: Day two – 2011 All Africa Games
Day two of the 2011 All African Games got off to a flying start at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Tuesday, September 6. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 100m butterfly and Women’s 200m freestyle final heats.
Jason Dunford of Kenya took home the gold medal in the Men’s 100m butterfly final heat on the podium by posting a winning time of 52.13 seconds. Most importantly, Dunford thrashed down his previous best meet record of 53.40 seconds, set back in 2007. The
effort of Dunford was short of his season best time of 51.59 seconds in the current year.
In the corresponding swim, Chad Le Clos of South Africa took home the silver medal on the podium by posting a striking time of 52.17 seconds. The splash also moved him to Number 17 spot in the contemporary rankings of world swimming. Meanwhile, Neil Watson
of South Africa snared bronze medal on the podium by submitting a unique time of 55.14 seconds.
Oussama Sahnoune of Algeria settled fourth in a time of 56.32 seconds. Yellow Yeiyah of Nigeria was placed fifth in a time of 56.71 seconds, while Quinton Delie of Namibia earned sixth position in a time of 57.40 seconds. Joao Matias of Angola settled seventh
in a time of 57.53 seconds, whereas, Sofyan Elgadi was placed eighth in a time of 58.27 seconds.
Karin Prinsloo of South Africa secured gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle final heat with a victorious mark of 1 minute and 59.84 seconds. Interestingly, Prinsloo thrashed down Melissa Corfe’s previous best meet record of 2 minutes and 02.45 seconds,
set back in 2007. In the corresponding race, Zeineb Khalfallah of Tunisia earned silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 05.44 seconds.
Natasha De Vos South Africa settled for bronze title in 2 minutes and 06.20 seconds. Moreover, Kirsten Lapham of Zimbabwe was placed fourth in a time of 2 minutes and 07.22 seconds and Nicole Horn finished fifth in 2 minutes and 08.00 seconds. Malia Mghezzi
Bekhouche of Algeria wound up sixth in 2 minutes and 09.16 seconds and Shannon Austin was placed seventh in 2 minutes and 12.36 seconds.
