Jason Dunford wins Men’s 50m butterfly title: 2011 All African Games – Day three
Day three of the 2011 All African Games saw inspiring swims at the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo, Mozambique, on Wednesday, September 7. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 50m butterfly final race.
In the corresponding splash, Jason Dunford of Kenya secured gold medal on the podium after touching the finishing wall and posting a captivating time of 23.57 seconds. Most importantly, Dunford beat his previous best meet time of 23.91 seconds, set back
in 2007. After the swim, Dunford was pleased with his performance in the competition.
In the meantime, Neil Watson took home silver medal on the podium by submitting a unique time of 24.31 seconds and Garth Tune took home bronze title by posting an eye catching time of 24.70 seconds. Yellow Yeiyah of Nigeria was placed fourth in a time of
25.01 seconds, whereas, Rama Vyombo earned fifth place honours in a time of 25.44 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Jughurtha Boumalie was placed sixth in a time of 25.46 seconds. Oluseyi Fatayi Williams earned seventh place honours in a time of 25.71 seconds, while Joao Matias wound up eighth after he touched the finishing wall and ended his
swim in a time of 25.80 seconds.
Earlier, South Africa’s group of four consisting of Karin Prinsloo, Natasha De Vos, Roxanne Tammadge and Suzaan van Biljon captured the Women’s 400m freestyle relay title with an enchanting time of 3 minutes and 53.93 seconds. Zimbabwe’s squad of Kirsty
Coventry, Samantha Welch, Kristen Lapham and Nicole Horn took home the silver medal on the podium by posting an outstanding time of 3 minutes and 57.81 seconds
Algeria’s group of four swimmers including Fella Benaceur, Melia Mghezzi Bekhouche, Sarah Hadj Abderahmane and Amel Melih won bronze medal on the podium after they touched the finishing blockade and posted a matchless time of 4 minutes and 02.84 seconds.
The crowd appreciated the effort put up by all athletes in their respective meets, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the end of the session.
