Jason Gavern prepares for IBO intercontinental title bout against Alexander Ustinov – Boxing News
Jason Gavern, the former WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) heavyweight champion, will try his level best to nail his Thursday night opponent, Alexander Ustinov, the current EBA (European Boxing Association) heavyweight champion, in a 12-round bout,
with vacant International Boxing Organization Intercontinental heavyweight title up for grabs.
Gavern recently shared his thoughts on various topics in a media interaction on his 35th birthday and commented that he is optimistic and confident to grab a win over Alexander.
The duo, who will meet at the Sportpalace arena situated in Kharkov, Ukraine, will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Alexander Krassyuk of K2 Promotions Ukraine.
Jason, at the moment has a bit upper hand as far as the experience is concerned. The 35-year-old has been in a total 34 bouts and emerged victorious in 21. He has collected just 10 of his total wins by knockout and has collected two wins, two losses and
one draw in his last five bout.
The American proud, well known as ‘The Sensation’, recently collided with Mariusz Wach for the WBC international heavyweight title and got knocked out in the sixth round.
Since then Jason has not returned to the ring and this will be the first fight after the passage of five months. His opponent, Ustinov, is a quality pugilist and though has fought less number of bouts than Jason yet has a better win and knockout ratio in
fact resides at the 24th place in the world rankings as compared to Gavern’s 74th.
Alexander boasts a huge win streak and has never lost a single bout in his total 26 battles. The Russian proud has collected 20 of his total wins by knockout and is considered as a decent pound-for-pound pugilist in the heavyweight division.
With an impressive resume, a clear height advantage alongside the lethal knockout ability, Alexander has clearly the odds in his favour. Jason while sharing his resolve to win the bout over Ustinov said, “Every fight is important but when there are titles
at stake and great opportunities waiting for you if you win, is it always important to fight like a champion. I definitely would like to have at least one payday before I leave this game. A win against Ustinov just might make that happen.”
Jason admitted that the fight will be a tough one since he is in Alexander’s home town and above all his opponent has a substantial height advantage. Jason remarked, “I think that I am up to obviously a very tall challenge in Ustinov. It is always difficult
to get a decision against someone when you are the opponent especially overseas when he is the main guy and you are being brought in as an opponent.”
The event will be co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bout between Vitaliy Neveselyy and Pavlo Zhuravlev.
