Jason Giambi’s three-run homer helps Colorado Rockies defeat Cleveland Indians 8-7 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies’ first baseman, Jason Giambi had a notable day with the bat as he went 1-for-4 including a three-run homer in the Rockies’ 8-7 win over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland on June 20.
First inning was full of scoring opportunities as the Rockies added one run at the top while the Indians started pretty well to take a 3-1 lead by scoring three runs at the bottom of the first inning.
Troy Tulowitzki singled to left-field and Carlos Gonzalez posted one run for the Rockies. Michael Brantley and Asdrubal Cabrera both contributed two runs while the third run for the Indians was taken Travis Hafner by hitting a solo homer (422 feet) towards
right-field. It was considered as the sixth homer for Hafner during the current season.
The pitchers restricted the batters by pitching perfectly and did not give any run during the second and third inning. The Indians extended their lead 4-1 in the fourth inning when Carlos Santana struck a one-run homer (405 feet) to right-field.
Fifth inning was in favour of the batters as both the teams added runs on their individual score-cards. The Rockies’ batters stepped on the gas and blasted six runs at the top of the fifth while the Indians were able to score just two runs at the bottom
of the fifth inning. As a result, the Rockies went ahead 7-6 after the fifth inning.
Chris Iannetta, Chris Nelson, Todd Helton, Tulowitzki and Gonzalez each posted one run Giambi hit a home-run (431 feet) towards centre-field to complete a six-run campaign for the Rockies. Grady Sizemore and Brantley both scored two runs for the Indians
to reduce their lead.
The pitchers controlled the shots of the batters in the sixth and seventh inning. The Rockies’ starter’ Juan Nicasio pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 4.71 and allowed six runs on seven hits including six earned runs. He was able to strike-out
six batters and gave two walks on 80 pitches.
The score-board advanced to 8-7 during the eighth inning when Charlie Blackmon scored one run for the Rockies while Santana contributed a single run for the Indians when Cord Phelps drove towards left-field. The score-card remained empty as the pitchers
did not give away any run in the ninth inning.
