Jason Gore leads the Neediest Kids Championship after round one
Jason Gore of the United States carded a seven-under par 63, in the opening round of the Neediest Kids Championship, to take a two-stroke lead over a group of four players, on Thursday, October 4, 2012.
The $600,000 tournament is played at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, featuring some of the best players on the Web.com Tour.
Gore, who currently ranks 65 in the Web.com Tour money list with total earnings of $76,462, desperately needs a good finish, in order to make it to the top-25.
Neediest Kids Championship is the fourth last tournament on the Web.com Tour roster this year.
Therefore, the American will have to make a strong move on the money list. Otherwise, he will have to participate in the Q-School, at the end of the year, to contend for the full-time PGA Tour card for 2013.
According to the PGA Tour qualifying rules, a player can make it to the PGA Tour by finishing among the top-25 players on the Web.com Tour.
Therefore, Gore currently looks to move on the right track, as he enters the second round in Maryland.
He got off to a confident start by carding a birdie on the first hole. A blemish on the fourth hole took him to an even-par score for the round.
However, it did not leave any affect on Gore, as he bounced back with a run of three straight birdies to end the front nine. His start on the back nine was not impressive. He started off with a bogey on the 10th hole.
Thereafter, he started making good shots on the course and added another five birdies to his scorecard to end the day on a high note.
"I believe I turned myself into a good putter," said Gore, who had only 23 strokes on the greens. "Last year, when I had shoulder surgery, that's all I did. I feel good over it (the ball) now. I look at it and -- let's put it this way, the putts that don't
go in, I'm shocked. That's a good attitude”.
He added, "You can't have expectations in putting. You go up there and try to read it as well as you can and try to hit your line. It's a funny game”.
