Jason Hammel shines as Baltimore Orioles floor Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles floored Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, April 25 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win over the Blue Jays, the Orioles improved their win-loss record to 11-7.
Wilson Betemit, who committed an error at third base, hit a crucial home run in the third inning to help Baltimore take the lead. Chris Davis scored in the fourth with a towering homer to the left field. Jason Hammel gave up just four hits in seven solid innings and Matt Lindstrom also made a useful contribution for his team.
"I knew when we came over here together what kind of pitcher the Orioles were getting out of him," Lindstrom said of Hammel. "They can just kind of throw me in there as well."
Buck Showalter and company have looked in commanding form since the start of the series. Showing great fighting spirit, determination and mental strength, the Orioles clinched a thriller in the opening game 2-1.
Continuing their excellent form on Wednesday evening, Baltimore made their rivals pay heavily for their unforced errors to take a decisive 2-0 lead. Undoubtedly, they will be hoping to put up a similar show in the finale as well to complete a well deserved series sweep.
"So far it's good," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said of Hammel in a post game interview. "Jeremy's going to pitch real well over there. He already is. We look at it as quality for quality.”
"I am still learning a new league and seeing what everybody else is doing," he added.
Blue Jays will be disappointed with their ordinary effort in the first two games but they will be looking to make a strong come back in the third and final match to salvage some of the lost pride. Considering the way Toronto hammered Kansas City Royals 4-0 in their previous series, their fans were expecting them to put up a brave fight but that has not turned out to be the case so far.
