Jason Kidd apologizes for his arrest on Twitter – NBA Update
Three days after agreeing to sign a two year deal with the New York Knicks as a free agent, Jason Kidd had been charged for driving under heavy influence of alcohol.
On Friday, Kidd chose his Twitter account as a medium to apologize for the recent arrest and acknowledge his friends and family for their support.
"I regret any disruption my accident last weekend may have caused members of the community and want to thank the local authorities,"- Kidd said in the tweet.
"I'd also like to thank my family and friends for their support." He added.
The 39 year old veteran point guard had been arrested for causing an accident while driving in an intoxicated condition. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning when Kidd was lost control of his escalade, which went
crashing into a telephone poll before eventually going down the woods.
When the Southampton police arrived on the scene, Kidd refused to co-operate and did not allow them to measure the level of alcohol in his system. The police also notified the New York Times in their report that Kidd also declined
to have blood sample taken at the Southampton Hospital.
The report given to the Times by the Southampton Police authorities also revealed that Kidd was unaware of what actually happened at the scene of incident.
"I had a few drinks. I was going home from a club. I don't know what happened." - Kidd
The veteran one guard has also been charged with two traffic violations according to his lawyer, Edward D. Burke Jr. Kidd failed stop and then comply with Police officials who asked to use a breathalyzer at the scene of the crash.
The veteran point guard had only recently agreed to join New York Knicks after spending the previous 4 and half years with the Dallas Mavericks. He had hoped to add some extra depth in the Knicks back court, but at the moment the
only court he will going into is the court of law. Kidd will stand in front of a jury on September 12th.
