Jason Kidd misses game against the Brooklyn Nets due to back spasms – NBA News
The New York Knicks veteran point guard Jason Kidd missed action on Monday night when the Knicks travelled to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to take his former team, the Brooklyn Nets. Kidd was once the franchise player of the Nets and had a deep playoff run on two occasions with the team back in the early 2000s. Kidd missed the game which the Knicks lost in overtime due to back spasms. The severity of his injury is yet to be disclosed and no official timeline for his return has been released by the Knicks.
"I don't know much yet. He's back home and we'll evaluate him tomorrow, and we'll go from there,” said Knicks Head Coach Mike Woodson regarding Kidd, who did not make the trip to Brooklyn with his team.
Ronnie Brewer started at the shooting guard position in place of Kidd, but had to leave in the second half with a dislocated left fourth finger. He did tell reporters that he was ok after the game. “I’m fine” is what he said.
Kidd has been a great asset for the Knicks this season and has been one of the reasons why they have started the season so well. Apart from being a veteran point guard who has plenty of experience, Kidd is averaging 8 points, 2.1 steals, and 3.4 assists per game this season. He has also had a calming effect on the Knicks back court ever since his arrival, and has helped the team reduce their turnovers to an NBA low 11.2 per game, while they lead the league in points scored per 100 possessions.
“He's a big part of what we do. He's one of those veteran guys that can settle things down and help run the team if things are not going great and smoothly,” said Woodson regarding Kidd after the loss to the Nets on Monday night.
Kidd will be examined extensively once the team returns to their home, after which more details about his injury will be released. However, the Knicks realize how crucial he is for them to continue with their current form, and will be hoping that he can make a speedy recovery back into the team.
