Jason Kidd not thinking about retirement at the moment - NBA Update
On a momentous Sunday night, Dallas Mavericks’ veteran player Jason Kidd finally appended a championship title to his resume, 17 years after he first graced the courts of NBA as the second draft pick. The 38-year-old Jason is the oldest starting point guard ever to land the ring and he is not done yet. In a recent interview, Jason said that he is not thinking for a retirement at the moment.
“I feel great. Mentally and physically I feel I can still…I have a lot to give to the game. I love the competition. This is a kids game. Being thirty-eight I think the media made more about it. I might not be as fast as I was when I was twenty-one or twenty-two, but I still feel the knowledge of the game I still have the advantage because I’ve seen almost everything.”
The oldest active player in the league said that he is looking forward to play for another two or three years with the team.
After being drafted in 1994, Kidd played two complete seasons with the Mavericks. He was then traded to the Phoenix Suns during the 1996-1997 season. After serving then desert city franchise for four years, the All-Star made his way into the New Jersey Nets and had a strong impact on the team in his very first year. That year, the Nets finished the regular season with a 52-30 record. From there, began the golden era of the Nets.
The point guard had two successive chances to land a championship title with the New Jersey Nets when the team went into the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003. The Nets lost on both the occasions and the quest of an NBA title brought him back in the Mavericks. And as destiny panned out, Kidd won the championship with the very team, which first introduced him on the big stage.
Kidd was one of the key element in the Mavs first ever championship win, especially late in the Finals. The old war horse used every bit of his experience and was virtually an on field coach. He not only made the shots when it mattered the most, he also made spaces, dished out pin point passes and above all made Miami realize that they didn’t have a good enough point guard to counter him and his team. He was ecstatic after winning the ring.
"Man, it's a dream come true. It's not real right now ... it's been a long journey ... I'm just so happy to be at the right place at the right time." Kidd said.
Jason’s current contract with Dallas has one season and he wants to finish his career in Dallas.
