Jason Kidd wants to be Steve Nash for Amare Stoudemire – NBA News
Jason Kidd in one of the most skilled and successful point guards in NBA, and has been a prominent player for over the past decade or so.
He was at his prime when he played for the New Jersey Nets, and led them to many playoff campaigns, including two consecutive trips to the NBA Finals. When he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, Kidd was still their first choice
for point guard and helped the team win the NBA title in the 2010-2011 season.
However, over the past few seasons, Kidd has settled for more of a back-up role as age has caught up with him and limited his playing time.
Now as the veteran moves to his new home with the New York Knicks next season, he is excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for him, with all the star players on the Knicks roster.
The Knicks might have expected Kidd to continue his role as a backup point guard giving the team some playoff pedigree while grooming and mentoring the younger guards. However, Kidd is talking about what he can do with the offense
and how he can make players such as Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony more effective.
Kidd talked with the official Knicks blog, KnicksNow, and talked about how he wanted to do a Steve Nash for Amare Stoudemire;
“With Amare, I hope I can be like a Nash to be able to get him the ball where he likes it to be successful. Make it where he doesn’t have to work as hard, easy layups, catch and shoot where he likes it,” said Kidd.
Kidd was also excited about the fact that he would be playing alongside one of the best forwards in the league in Carmelo Anthony, who is a scoring machine and can take over games single handedly.
He said that he wanted to make it easier for Anthony to score, finding him in open positions and getting the ball to him where he likes it.
“Melo is one of the top five players in the world. For me it’s to get him touches that put the ball in the basket, so he doesn’t have to work so hard. He’s a guy that understands how to play and also understands how to win,” added
Kidd.
The possibilities are endless for Kidd with a superstar cast that also includes reigning Defensive Player of the Year Tyson Chandler. However, what remains to be seen is how much playing time Kidd can manage as he nears the end
of his career, and more importantly, how do the Knicks see him fitting into their overall game plan and strategy for the coming season as well as the future.
