Jason Krejza surprised over ODI call-up
Australia off-spinner Jason Krejza, who is excited over his surprise One-day International call-up, has said that playing ODI cricket for Australia has always been at the top of his to-do list.
“It's a complete surprise, full-stop,” said Krejza. “Hopefully I get the opportunity. Playing one-day cricket has been at the top of my list as the next thing to do, and it's finally come around.”
The 28-year-old off-break bowler said that he would not wish for a World Cup call-up as it would only be possible if injured off-spinners fail to recover in time which, according to him, would not be good for the team.
Krejza, however, did say that he will try to use the opportunity to press his claims for the mega event in a dire situation.
The opportunity has only come because http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s three first-choice spinners are battling injuries. Nathan Hauritz is struggling with a dislocated shoulder, Xavier Doherty has a soaring back while Steven Smith is suffering from a
hip injury.
Krejza, who has played only two Tests since debuting in November 2008 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 picking up 13 wickets at 43.23, must be aware this might be a short-term call-up as Australia already has some big guns in this department. Therefore,
he is determined to impress the Aussie selectors like he did in his Test debut claiming 12 wickets- though the performance did not help him earn a permanent place in the squad.
The off-spinner said that playing Test cricket again for Australia is still his dream, however, he said that his focus at the moment is Sunday’s series finale to be played in Perth.
“It's still my dream to put that baggy green back on but I just have to concentrate on this game and play each game as if it could be my last,” Krejza said.
Chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch praised Krejza’s all-round capabilities and hoped he would avail the opportunity that he has been provided with.
“Jason is a very skilled spinner and more than capable batsman who has already enjoyed international success and we are sure will seize the opportunity,” said Hilditch.
