Jason Kubel hits lead-off double as Minnesota Twins beat Cleveland Indians 4-3 – MLB Update

Jason Kubel’s two run RBI double in the seventh inning was the main difference in the Minnesota Twins 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Target Field on Sunday.
The Twins won the “one game shortened” three game series by 2-0.
Minnesota took the early lead through Denard Span and Jason Kubel who scored on Justin Morneau’s double in the third inning. The Indians came back strongly in the very next innings brilliantly scoring three runs on two consecutive hits by Orlando Cabrera
and Michael Brantley. However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, reliever Rafael Perez allowed an important two-run hit that remained decisive until the end of the ninth inning.
Indians’ starter Carlos Carrasco had a sketchy evening on Sunday as he was allowed to throw only three innings. He was hit six times in his three innings that cost the Indians three runs. Carrasco was relieved by Jeanmar Gomez who was very convincing until
the start of the seventh inning when he allowed a single to Casilla, who continued to score the game winning run. Rafael Perez, who relieved Gomez, unfortunately lost the game with a two run hit in his innings. Vinnie Pestano came in at the end and pitched
accurately to close the game, remaining scoreless in his single inning.
On the other hand, Minnesota used five pitchers to complete their nine innings despite a seven inning long spell from their starter, Carl Pavano. He earned his second exciting win of the season with three runs in the seven innings. Pavano is 2-2 after this
win with a 5.12 ERA. Glen Perkins, Jim Hoey and Jose Mijares combined to pitch a scoreless eighth inning while Matt Capps threw the ninth inning to save his fourth game of the season.
The Twins came-back strongly after going 4-10 down at the start of the season. They have won five out of their last seven games despite the absence of their key players like Joe Mauer, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Delmon Young due to injury. The team has come together
well and is playing at a completely different level, as they building some winning momentum.
Scoring Summary:
3rd inning:
Denard Span and Kubel scored on Justin Morneau’s double to the deep center-field.
4th inning:
Orlando Cabrera hit an RBI double to left-field, Carlos Santana scored while Travis Hafner reached third base.
Michael Brantley hit an amazing lead-off double to deep right-field to bring team-mates Hafner and Cabrera home.
7th inning:
Kubel hit the game-winning double to deep right-center field, as Alexi Casilla and Span completed their respective runs.
Final Score: Cleveland Indians 3-4 Minnesota Twins
