Jason Kubler, Pedja Krstin advance to second round of Boys’ Singles – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Jason Kubler defeats Mate Delic 4-6, 6-4, 10-8
Jason Kubler of Australia came back from a deficit of one set to oust Mate Delic of Croatia in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the first round of boys’ single event at the Wimbledon Championships in London on Saturday. The Australian
took two hours and 24 minutes to undo his opponent in a marathon match.
In the first set, Delic broke Kubler in the seventh game and consolidated on it to win the set 6-4. The Croatian hit eleven winners and 68 percent of the first serves in the opening set. Delic did not commit any double fault but
made eight unforced errors in the first set.
Kubler fought back in the second set, breaking his opponent in the ninth game and claiming the set 6-4. The Australian fired 70 percent of the first serves and a couple of aces in the second set. Kubler bagged 42 percent of the
receiving points in the second set.
The Australian and Delic broke each other’s serve once in the first twelve games of third set, levelling the score at 6-6. Tie-break was not enforced as it was the deciding set. Kubler broke Delic at 8-8 and served out the set
in the next game, winning it 10-8.
The Australian will face Oliver Golding of Great Britain or Russian Aslan Karatsev in the second round.
Pedja Krstin beats Marco Aurei Nunez 6-4, 5-7, 6-4
Serbian Pedja Krstin defeated Marco Aurei Nunez of Mexico in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to qualify for the second round. The match lasted for two hours and seven minutes.
Krstin needed a single break of serve in the first set to capture it 6-4. The Serbian hit a single ace and clinched 72 percent of the first service points in the opening set. Krstin capitalised on the only break point opportunity
he created on Nunez’ serve and saved both break points he faced on his own serve in the first set.
The Mexican and Krstin broke each other twice in the first ten games of the second set and equalised the score at 5-5. Nunez broke the Serbian in the twelfth game to bag the set 7-5. The Mexican played aggressively, firing seven
aces and 21 winners in the second set.
Krstin broke Nunez in the ninth game of the final set to claim it 6-4. The Serbian sealed nine of the fifteen net approach points in the third set.
Krstin will take on Marcos Giron of USA in the second round. The American ousted Andres Artunedo Martinava of Spain in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 in the first round.
