Jason Kubler cruises past Marcos Giron in Boys’ Singles – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Australian Jason Kubler downed American Marcos Giron in straight sets to advance into the last eight of the Boys’ Singles – Wimbledon Championships 2011, third of the fourth Grand Slam event held in London, United Kingdom. He barely
faced any trouble and eventually registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the 17-year-old American on Wednesday.
The Aussie displayed solid tennis to triumph over Giron in straight sets in exactly one hour to secure a final eight spot in this major grass court event held in All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
18-year-old Aussie confidently entered at Court Sixteen and plucked entire serves through blistering forehands from his box of tricks. He faced no difficulty against Giron and converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities
to his advantage to clinch the opener with a 6-3 score line in twenty-six minutes. Kubler produced a much better first serve share of 75 percent as compared to Giron’s 66 percent and committed five unforced errors as opposed to American’s eleven which made
the difference.
The Brisbane native carried his winning ways into the final set and held his serve in the beginning game to take the lead by 1-0. He then maintained momentum to reel off remaining serves with his quick forehands and backhands.
Kubler saved both breakpoints conceded and converted one out of three breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to seal the set with a similar 6-3 score line again in thirty-four minutes. He clobbered a slightly lower first serve share of 71 percent as opposed
to Giron’s 76 percent but registered a superb 80 percent win on it. The Aussie committed five unforced errors as compared to American’s seventeen which made the difference.
Wild card entrant, Kubler entered the main event in good shape and made an epic comeback to down Croat Mate Delic in a three set thriller in the first round. He then stunned fourth seeded British Oliver Golding in straight sets
to set-up this clash.
Next up for the Aussie is Belgian Julien Cagnina who upset seventh seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem in straight sets to reach this spot.
The Belgian faced zero breakpoint throughout the match and converted three out of four breakpoint chances to his advantage to seal the match with a 6-4, 6-2 score line in fifty-nine minutes. He displayed exceptional skills on Court
Eight to advance in this event. Cagnina took full advantage of the fifteen unforced errors Thiem committed and earned an amazing 75 percent win on his higher first serve share.
