Jason Miller and Nick Diaz altercation causes a call out
It’s one of the most heated rivalries in mixed martial arts, and it’s between two men who’ve never even stepped into the cage together.
On Tuesday, 26 October, Jason 'Mayhem' Miller revealed the details of his most recent altercation with Nick Diaz, which took place backstage after Diaz’s successful welterweight (170lb) title defence against
K.J Noons at the 9 October Strikeforce event.
"I had just finished doing interviews in the back room, and I was walking the same way that he was coming down, and I was actually going to be like, 'Hey, good job, Nick.' But he's coming towards me and he
starts mad-dogging me [acting aggressively],” he told mmafighting.com. Faced with Diaz’s aggression, Miller simply laughed, and then Diaz threw a water-bottle at him.
"Before I knew it, he had a water bottle hidden down by his side and he threw it at me...Then we got into some kind of juvenile 'F--- you' match. I was like, 'F--- you bro, you're not even going to do anything."
Though that was evidently a heated exchange, it didn’t compare to the infamous 17 April incident, in which Miller and Diaz, and several of Diaz’s team-mates, got into a brawl on live television which saw
Miller get pushed to the ground and kicked by Diaz and his team-mates.
Since then Miller’s been lobbying for a fight with Diaz, but is has been problematic because Diaz fights at the 170lb limit, while Miller is
in the 185lb middleweight division.
But Miller has fought at 170lb before, and Diaz has fought as high as 180lb in the past, suggesting some kind of compromise can probably be reached for the fight, which would mean big bucks for the Strikeforce
promotion. But in his interview with mmafighting.com, Miller suggested it was Diaz who was avoiding the fight.
"I've been begging for the fight. If the fight doesn't happen, it's not my fault. It's not Strikeforce's fault, because they want it. So that leaves one person. Don't be scared, homie."
