http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jason-Nazimuddin-Mohammed-c66460 keen to retain his place in WI ODI squad – Cricket News Update
Jason Mohammad, who played one match during the recent West Indian trip to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, failed to impress, but is still determined to retain his place in the West Indian team.
The batsman from Trinidad and Tobago made his debut in the fifth and final One Day International match against India at Chennai, earlier this month. Despite expectations from him, he failed in the only ODI he played, scoring a couple of runs off 21 balls.
He was not the only batsman who performed below par; the other batsmen did not fare any better, as the Caribbean Kings suffered a 34-run defeat and lost the series 4-1.
Mohammad was in high spirits even after his ordinary show in the debut game, calling it a good experience, and aiming for an improved performance in his future outings.
“It was a great experience. I didn't get off to the best start but I was just happy to be there and have an international game under my belt. I always wanted to get to this level and I will be working a bit harder to keep my place in the team,” said Mohammed.
The 25-year-old added, “That is the biggest stage that you can get. It was my dream to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and having played in that game, I think the next time I get an opportunity I should be a better prepared player.”
The diminutive player has played in 22 first-class matches so far, scoring 889 runs at an average of 25.40. His stats in the List A games are impressive, he possesses a fine average of 38.87 in 13 matches.
The next big challenge for the West Indies is a tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where the two sides will play a five match ODI series and a couple of T20 internationals, and end the tour with a three-match Test series in March 2012.
In order to make the cut for the squad, Mohammad will have to perform well in the domestic Super50 Championship, as well as the upcoming Caribbean T20 tournament, to be played in January next year.
