Jason Norris finishes his campaign at the BMW New Zealand Open on a high note
Jason Norris fired a six-under par 66 in the final round of the BMW New Zealand Open, to finish the tournament on a high note. His performance included a total of seven birdies against a lone bogey.
The Australian finished tied for the second position in event, which was co-sanctioned by the OneAsia Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia.
Norris marked a disappointing start to his campaign at the Clearwater Golf Club, as he posted scores of 77 and 73 in the first two rounds.
He then made a strong comeback by firing a six-under par 66 in the third round to get into contention for a top-10 position.
At the end of his fourth round, he was not only assured of a top-10 finish, but was also in contention for the top spot on the leaderboard.
Jake Higginbottom, who found the water hazard on the 18th hole during his second round, entered the 72nd hole of the tournament with a one-stroke lead over Norris.
At that time, Norris wished the game to enter into the playoffs, and that was only possible in case of Higginbottom making another mistake on the 18th hole.
However, the game finished in favour of Higginbottom, after he turned in the ball for a par putt. Despite losing in the final moments of the tournament, Norris was pleased with his overall performance.
He stated that he was not expecting such a strong comeback, especially after going six-over par for the first two rounds.
Peter Wilson, in the meantime, also joined him on the leaderboard after carding a four-under par 68.
Unlike Norris, Wilson played a consistent game throughout the week. He opened his campaign with a 72 on day one and followed that with back-to-back 71s in the second and the third round.
Meanwhile, the overnight leader Mark Brown faltered for a one-over par 73 in the final round to slip to the fourth spot on the leaderboard.
Entering the final round, he held a healthy three-stroke lead over his competitors. However, he failed to keep the momentum going into the final 18 holes.
He carded only one birdie against two bogeys to mark a disappointing finish to his campaign in Christchurch.
