Jason Richardson, Kris Humphries: NBA Free Agents who may be hired for more than they deserve (Pt 2)
Jason Richardson
Jason Richardson is also among the prominent free agents of 2011. The shooting guard made his mark right from the very start of his career, when he earned the National Basketball Association Rookie Challenge Most Valuable Player
award and was also named for the All-Rookie First Team in his debut season.
Richardson is termed as the most effusive dunkers of the league, because of his tremendous skills that enabled him to win the NBA Slam Dunk competition for two consecutive years (2002, 2003). With this achievement Richardson became
only the third player after great Michael Jordan and Nate Robinson, who had won the competition one after the other.
Moreover, Richardson’s ability to drive through the lane and high flying jams, earned him a lot of fame not just among the fans, but also with the NBA executives. However, 30 year old Richardson seems to have lost that touch which
he used to have in the stints with Golden State Warriors. At that point in time Richardson touched his career high scoring average of 23.2 points per game.
Now his dunks and offensive play lacks that spark. In December 2010, Richardson joined Orlando Magic, where he is utilized more in the capacity of a three-point specialist that rarely drives into the lane. Richardson can still
score with an average of 15 points per game, but his success in future more depends on the franchise that will select him from the free agency market.
For Richardson it is necessary that he should get picked up by a team that possess a strong player at point guard position, so Jason can hit open spots to hit shots. If Richardson is able to have this ideal setup then he can make
a difference with his solid shooting from the three-point range.
Chicago Bulls is the team that is in need of a shooting guard, who can take the load off Derrick Rose’ shoulders and they may be interested in acquiring Richardson, as he has the ability to create his own shot as well. However,
keeping his past performances and age in mind, Richardson have a little chance to make it into the Bulls, as Chicago and other teams may look for a young shooting guard.
Kris Humphries
Power Forward Kris Humphries was one of the under dogs in the previous season. The 26 year old has never touched the double digit mark in average scoring during a single season in his entire career up till now.
In the 2010-11 season Humphries scored with an average of 10.4 points and clutched 10.1 rebounds per game. By viewing his overall stats of his career, it seems that the young talent is evolving as a player, but still Humphries
has lot of limitations to overcome.
Humphries definitely got the talent, but it would be bit risky to pay him a high salary just after having one good season. Humphries still need to prove himself, especially his previous season stats made him look pretty ordinary
and just another power forward in the league.
Moreover, spending more funds in order to retain Humphries, wouldn’t left much cash behind in the account of the Nets to fulfil their desire of getting Dwight Howard. The Nets do require another star in their line-up, but they
also require good supporting cast that will help Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and New Jersey in winning the championship.
So if Humphries ask for more cash in the free agency market than it’s better for the Nets go after some other player, like Nene Hilario. As Humphries still has to go a long way before receiving a big cheque.
