Jason Roy and Matthew Dunn sign contracts with Surrey
Jason Roy and Matthew Dunn have both signed two-year contracts with Surrey, which will keep them in place until the end of the 2012 season.
The youngsters have very big futures at Surrey and have already made good impressions. Roy who is just 20, is the only Surrey player with a Twenty20 hundred to his name [scored against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 last season]
and Dunn who is 18, has impressed with his raw pace as a seam bowler.
"I'm delighted that we have signed two of Surrey's foremost emerging talents and two players who I am certain
have the ability to go all the way," cricket manager Chris Adams said on the Surrey website.
Surrey is a county with a deep history and tradition. It may be difficult for each of these players to hold down a regular first team place because of the quality that
is currently in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 squad.
Work hard
The main focus for both of these young men has to be to work hard. Roy has already proved that he can cope with the demands of playing as a first class batsman. However,
he still has to prove himself in the 40 over and four-day version of the game.
Dunn is far from a complete fast bowler. He has good basic attributes but it's yet to be seen how he will react against a batting attack that looks to bully him out of
a game.
Surrey's squad is littered with better and more experienced players in batting and bowling positions. The likes of captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rory-Hamilton-Brown-c2366 and bowler Chris Tremlett
will be way up the pecking order.
"In Jason we have one of the most destructive county batsmen playing today
and in Matt, an emerging fast bowler with the ability to bowl 90 mph and over," he added.
Betting advice
Surrey had a disappointing summer and finished third from bottom in division two of the county championship. This means that players like Roy and Dunn may get more chances to
impress next summer. Out of the pair back Roy more frequently as it's easier to score runs than take wickets.
