Jason Sager wins third stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic: Cycling News
Jamis team’s Jason Sager won the third stage of 2011 Trans-Sylvania Epic in Bald Eagle Coburn on Tuesday, May 31.
Jason Sager took a total of 2 hours, 54 minutes and 26 seconds to cover a distance of 76 kilometres.
Jeremiah Bishop of Cannondale team was the runner-up with two seconds behind Jason and his team-mate, Alex Grant, grabbed the third place with 4 minutes and 48 seconds.
Justin Lindine (BikeReg.com/Joe's Garage/Scott), Kris Sneddon (Kona) and Drew Edsall (Super Cool Bike Shop/Firstplaceracing) were in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
After winning the stage, Jason Sager told the media, "I wanted to do little chips, little chips to isolate guys, I tried to do it earlier in the day too, chip away and splinter riders. Bishop and I worked well all the way in with a good even pace,"
Christopher Beck of the CF’s team attacked early in the race, but he was captured after a few kilometres and Jason Sager countered the attack with own.
The group of six riders made their first break including, Jeremiah Bishop, Alex Grant, Kona's Kris Sneddon, Justin Lindine of the BikeReg.com/Joe's Garage/Scott team, Drew Edsall of the Super Cool Bike Shop/Fastpaceracing team and Christopher Beck.
Alex Grant tested his legs and Sager paced his speed, put a gap on Grant. After a few kilometres, Sager reduced his speed when he saw Bishop chasing him. He waited for him to grab on.
Sager's team-mate, Adam Snyder, said, "That was a bold move by Jason to slow up for Bishop, Anything could have happened, he could have countered with an attack of his own."
In final lap, Grant tried his best to cross the single track, but Sager was in a good form and he maintained his speed and crossed the finish-line ahead of other cyclists.
The three cyclists, Mike Festa, Josh Patterson and Michael Cushionberry were disqualified.
In the women's category, Amanda Carey was in the first place with a timing of 3 hours, 30 minutes and 20 seconds. Selene Yeager was the runner-up with 7 minutes and 13 seconds. Vicki Barclay was in third place with a difference of 8 minutes and 28 seconds.
