Jason Scotland moves to Ipswich Town
Jason Scotland completed his switch from English Premier League club Wigan to Ipswich Town on Monday. The Trinidad and Tobago international striker has signed a two-year deal with the Football League Championship outfit after arriving for an undisclosed fee.
The 31-year-old told BBC Radio Suffolk that: "It's been difficult at Wigan, I've not been enjoying my football like I enjoyed it at Swansea. Hopefully I can be back out scoring goals and enjoying my football."
Ipswich manager Roy Keane had wanted to have Scotland on board last week, but the club’s chief executive Simon Clegg revealed why the transfer had taken a little longer to be completed. He told reporters that: "The deal was actually agreed last week but because of the Wigan manager's requirements to have Jason available for Saturday's game against Chelsea the deal couldn't be completed until today. I think securing Jason underlines the ambitions of this club to be playing Premier League football."
Scotland had played for Swansea for two years before making the two million pound move to Wigan to join his former boss Roberto Martinez last summer. During his time with the Welsh club he scored 45 times in 90 games in the Championship and Football League One, and the forward revealed that he had the chance to return to his former club.
"They were interested in taking me back but I'm thinking you never go back. But I had a good time at Swansea, I enjoyed my time there and I always thank the fans and the chairman."
The striker began his career in British football in July 2003 when he joined Scottish Premier League outfit Dundee United after impressing while on trial. In 50 appearances for the Tangerines over two seasons, he notched seven goals in 50 games. Due to complications in obtaining another work permit Scotland could not continue his spell at United but was able to join First Division outfit St Johnstone, where he spent two years before moving to Swansea in 2007.
