Jason Somerville and Mark Gillan take over aerodynamics, operations roles at Williams – Formula 1
Formula 1 Team Williams have made some more changes at the team as they have now appointed Jason Somerville as the head of aerodynamics while Mark Gillan is now going to be the team’s chief operations engineer.
Frank Williams, the principal of the team claims that the team is now feeling much stronger with these additions as the leadership of the team is now in place and that the team is now finally focused on its goals.
“Williams F1 is looking forward to welcoming Jason and Mark to the team. They bring with them talent, experience and good team skills. We now feel that, together with Mike Coughlan, Jason and Mark can form the right technical leadership to take the team
forward as we work our way back to the front of the grid,” said Williams.
The team went through its worst start to a Formula 1 season this year after which the team was unable to figure out the mistakes they made during their car development period. The team has been performing quite disappointingly in both qualifying sessions
and races and they are currently in 9th place with just 4 points from 8 races.
Toro Rosso and Force India on the other hand are performing much better than them and as they are in 7th and 8th places respectively.
Williams as a result decided to make some line-up changes in the team as a result of which, Sam Michael decided to resign from his post by the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
They recently added Mike Coughlan into the team as their chief engineer who is quite confident that the team will make a very good car for the 2012 Formula 1 season as they have already started developing it.
Gillan and Somerville are expected to join the team officially in October and August 2011 respectively.
Somerville has worked with Williams in the past as well from 1999-2003 which were apparently some of the teams good years with drivers like Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacques Villeneuve and Ralf Schumacher.
