Jason Spezza’s groin injury still bothering him
Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza is still hampered by a groin injury that has already kept the all-star out of two games this season.
Spezza sat out of Senators’ practice on Monday 25 October with head coach Cory Clouston saying that the groin was still bothering the playmaker and he is unlikely to be in the line-up on 26 October, when
the club takes on the Phoenix Coyotes. However, Clouston is hopeful that the centre will be able to make the start for the club on 28 October when they play the Florida Panthers.
Ottawa has been struggling early in the season, sitting 29th in the League with a horrible 2-5-1 record. The slow start sparked general manager Bryan Murray to announce that he will be making
changes to the line-up, likely through trade.
Murray’s announcement has caused many hockey analysts to hypothesize that Spezza could be moved. The forward is generally at the centre of any trade speculation, as he is the Senators number one asset
and is constantly in-and-out of Murray’s good books.
The Senators have been reported to be dealing with the Minnesota Wild, San Joe Sharks, New York Rangers, and Los Angeles Kings on a deal that could involve the 27-year-old. A deal, which included Spezza,
would likely have to involve a solid, stay-at-home defenceman coming the other way. Early reports speculate that any of Marc Staal, Jack Johnson, Cam Barker and Douglas Murray could be swapped for the point-per-game centre.
Regardless of what happens to Spezza, in the near future the club would certainly like to have him back in the line-up. At the moment the Ottawa seems inept at both ends of the ice with captain Daniel
Alfredsson being forced to do the heavy lifting on the offensive end.
So far this season Spezza has notched five points in five games for the Senators.
