Jason Terry looking to give Dallas Mavericks a chance to match any offer he receives over the summer
As of July 1st several of the NBA`s best players have become free agents. One of the free agents this year is Jason Terry, the veteran who has been linked to have drawn interests from
several teams around the league.
Terry is undoubtedly among the best players who are exploring free agency this year. At the age of 34, he still averages 15 points per game while coming off the bench and is getting intriguing offers from all
over, including the likes of Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Despite his increasing age, Terry has been a key part of the Dallas Mavericks rotation for the past several years and was one of the pivotal pieces, alongside Dirk Nowitzki, to bring in their first NBA Championship
in 2010. He is a prolific perimetre shooter, one every contender would like to have on the wings. He is highly athletic and can out hustle some of the best on the D.
Nevertheless, Terry wants Dallas to be his home for the next season and is looking to give the franchise an option to matchup any offers he receives from other teams. He is most likely to consider how long a
contract Mavericks have on offer for him and what kind of a role he is looking at, given that they are successful in bringing in Deron Williams in the summer.
There can be no doubt that Terry can still do a lot of things on court with his rotation position, a role he has grown accustomed to and one which won him the honours of the Sixth Man of the Year back in 2009.
It was this kind of impact which earned him interest from the likes of Miami Heat well before free agency began. Even though Miami are not among the teams looking to lure Terry in at present, however he is creating
big time waves in the market at the moment.
The final decision however lies with the Mavs. They are a franchise looking towards the future and given that Terry had previously said that he wants a long term contract, a merger with Jet seems improbable if
Williams joins the team.
