Jason Terry furious over the lack of respect the Dallas Mavericks have received this year – NBA Update
In recent comments, Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry has lashed out on the lack of respect that the Mavs have been receiving this season so far.
At the start of the season, many players who were a part of the Dallas squad that clinched the first NBA Championship in the franchise’s history left in the free agency and many critics had predicted that Mavs would struggle to
even make it to the playoffs.
However with a playoff spot secured and still three games left in the season, Terry has come out furiously to address the matter at hand.
“We haven't gotten much respect all year long, so it doesn't surprise me,'' Terry said. “I think a lot of teams are hoping and wishing that they can play the Mavericks [in the playoffs], similar to last year”
Terry also laid out a challenge for every team looking to get an easy run against Dallas in the post season.
Considering their history from the 1990`s, Mavericks were an extremely poor team and since then the revival and the turnaround has been nothing short of astounding. Dallas have made it to the playoffs for the past 12 years running
and Terry who has a long history with the team has been part of 8 of those 12 seasons.
“I've been a part of eight of them,'' Terry said. “It's a tremendous accomplishment, but again our goal is to win a championship. But now that we're in, which is the first step, we can focus on the task at hand.'' – Terry said.
As per the current standings, Mavericks are on the number 6th spot in the Western Conference. With only a few games remaining, the worst they can do is slip down to the 8th spot.
The possible opponents for the Mavs are, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder or the Los Angeles Lakers depending on where they finally finish in the conference table. However this does not faze the Mavericks players at all
who know that they have to face the best teams eventually at one time in the playoffs.
“You've got to play someone, so we'll take whoever it is,'' guard Jason Kidd said
This shows the kind of mental attitude the current Mavericks players are in at the moment who believe in dealing with things one task at a time.
Dallas, were in a similar kind of situation last year and look how that turned out for them as they defeated the Portland Trail Blazer, swept the Lakers, defeated the Thunder in the conference finals and eventually clinching the
title against the Miami Heat.
Even though the Mavs have had an up and down season so far but based on recent comments from some of their players, it looks as though Dallas might be turning a few heads in the playoffs as they look to repeat this year.
