The former Sixth Man of the Year wants to be adept to the system Boston Celtics had in place prior to his arrival
Jason Terry wants to be a key part of the Boston Celtics rotation in the coming campaign and he is working very hard to make it happen.
The Celtics may not want him to fill in the void left behind by the departure of Ray Allen but the former Sixth Man of the Year has embraced the opportunity to watch films of how NBA’s best long range shooter applied his trait
in Boston.
“I have been watching film and watching Ray Allen, the way he maneuvers and works off screens,” Terry said, “I believe in [Celtics head coach] Doc [Rivers]‘ system. He’ll have me do some of those things, so curling the three, that’s
a tough shot, it’s off balance. And that’s just one that I will add.”
There is no doubting the fact that Terry will never be able to be as pure a shooter Allen is and he would never be able to fill in his shoes. However the former Dallas Mavericks veteran does have trick or two up his sleeve which
Allen didn’t.
One of the best things Terry is able to do is that he can create shots for himself unlike Allen which only gives him an increased chance of having the ball in his hands in pressure situations. This also provided the Celtics with
a well defined backup who can adjust to the point guard role.
Another thing which Terry does effectively and Allen failed to do last season, is his ability to play lock down defence. Terry is known for his speed and agility while getting up and down the court and despite his age is able to
take on the oppositions best players thus only proving him to be valuable to the Celtics in a different manner.
However this latest move by Terry to understand the system Celtics had when Allen was around is probably a smart move as Boston is not likely to completely switch the dynamics of their playing style and having the new additions
familiar with the system is only going to help them in the coming season.
