Jason Terry takes a dig at LeBron James – again: NBA Update
The NBA Finals might be over, but that doesn’t seem to stop Jason Terry from speaking his mind. The Dallas Mavericks guard who was criticized by some for talking too much during the Finals is still going strong and the target of
his comments is public enemy number one, LeBron James.
LeBron, after losing the finals had said that all the people who had rooted for him to fail during the season, would still have their own lives to live and he would have his - a quote that was interpreted as arrogant and disrespectful
to the NBA audience.
Jason Terry, took time out to answer James in a recent interview,
“Well, my normal little life just got a little bigger, so I thank him for that,”
Terry of course had his own personal battle going on with LeBron James in the NBA Finals. The diminutive Mavs player was guarded by LeBron James in the Finals, especially down the stretch, and in the early games he seemed to wilt
under the pressure LeBron was putting on him. However Jason, never one to back down, kept speaking to the media about how he was going to turn things around and how LeBron won’t be able to keep up his defensive pressure throughout the series.
Analysts scoffed at Terry’s remarks and questioned as to how he could escape the clutches of King James when league MVP Derrick Rose had failed to do so during the Eastern Conference Finals. However in the latter part of the series,
Terry backed up his big words with some sterling displays on the court which left LeBron James chasing shadows. In fact, so effective was Terry that he top scored in the final game and also ended up with a higher point’s average for the Finals than the two
time former MVP James.
In the interview Terry downplayed his own brilliance while congratulating and praising his team on a combined display that won them the NBA World Championship. He could also not resist to take a thinly veiled jibe at the star studded
Miami Heat who had assembled a Big Three of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the summer but failed to produce the goods on the biggest stage of all, the NBA Finals.
“Basketball’s a team sport,” said Terry, “When you out in competition, it takes five guys on the court at a time. They had three great players. They just needed a little more help. We had about nine or 10 exceptional players that
played well. We maximized our individual talent within a team concept and that’s why we’re the NBA champions.”
After what happened in the Finals, we would have to say Jason knows what he’s talking about.
