Jason Timmis primed for a top-25 finish at the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage
Jason Timmis fired a four-under par 66 in the fifth round of the European Tour’s Qualifying School Final Stage, to charge up the leaderboard to the shared 26th position, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012.
Entering the final round, he was just one stroke behind the top-25 and ties, who will earn their way into the 2013 European Tour season.
The Englishman suffered an early wobble this morning, bogeying the 10th hole, his first, at the tougher Stadium Course.
He then made light the stiff breeze with restorative birdies on the 12th and the 16th hole, along with an eagle putt on the 15th hole.
Thereafter, he bogeyed the 18th hole, to reach the turn in two-under. The back nine of the course witnessed him play impressive shots, earning him another four birdies to finish the day on a high note.
Timmis, who made his professional debut at the satellite Europro Tour last season, was pleased with his position, entering the last 18 holes of the tournament.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in bouncing back strongly, following a disappointing performance in the fourth round.
He faltered on Tuesday for a five-over par 77, which, at one time, threatened his chances to make it into the last two rounds of the tournament.
“Yesterday was a struggle, so it was great to bounce back with a low score today,” said the 24-year-old. “I had four birdies in my last seven holes, including one to finish, so it was very pleasing”.
He added, “I drove the ball well today, my iron play was good and I holed a few putts – it’s simple when golf is like that. I will be hoping for the same again tomorrow”.
Talking about his experience on the satellite Europro Tour, he stated that he really enjoyed playing the 2012 season as a pro.
He said that he will be more than delighted if he succeeds in making a jump onto the bigger stage, the European Tour.
“This has been my first year as a pro and I’ve really enjoyed. It will be a massive jump if I get on to The European Tour, but it’s very exciting,” he said.
