Jason Vargas comments on recent win as the player moves to nine wins this season
Jason Vargas was part of the Seattle Mariners 5-4 victory against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis on Tuesday, September 20.
The hurler was instrumental in tying down the opposition to just four runs, before he was changed in the seventh.
The pitcher did not exactly have the best day on the mound as he gave up four runs off nine hits and two walks. He picked four strike-outs and finished his earned runs average on just 4.38. The player faced a lot of fresh faces in the Twins’ line-up and
he had a few words to say about the young crop of stars coming into the Major League circuit. In his talk about the Twins, he clarified his outing was not as great as fans would have thought he had.
"I didn't really have one," Vargas said of his assessment on the young Twins line-up."That can be good or bad. More than likely, you get a bunch of young guys playing, they're going to swing the bats. So, I thought maybe that played a little part into it,
but it was just a struggle tonight."
The player gave up two runs in the first inning. Ben Revere and Trevor Plouffe scored off the hurler from RBI doubles. The player conceded another run in the bottom of the fourth as Revere drove Brian Dinkelman in with an RBI single. He conceded the last
run in the bottom of the fifth when Chris Parmelee led an RBI single. Michael Cuddyer scored for the Twins.
"I was all over the place," Vargas said. "I looked up at the board and it said I'd thrown 70 strikes and 30 balls, but it felt like the ratio wasn't like that at all. I don't know.”
Nevertheless, Vargas is now 9-13 and manager Eric Wedge will be hoping the hurler can finish the season with at least ten wins. With one more outing assured, in the coming days, it will be interesting to see how the pitcher ends his campaign.
