Jason Vargas will start his new beginning with the Los Angeles Angels – MLB Special
Some say that the Los Angele Angels did a wonderful job sending their designated hitter Kendrys Morales to Seattle Mariners as they have already enough hitters to carry the franchise’s burden into a fresh Major League Baseball season.
With Morales’ trade, they received Mariners’ one of the top pitchers Jason Vargas. Vargas’ potential arrival in the Los Angeles Angels completed their starting rotation for the next big event in 2013.
The Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto is happy quite happy about this recent trade. They were searching all offseason for a good starter after Zack Greinke left them and signed with rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“This really fits a need for us, We were looking for a steady, reliable left-hander who has a history of pitching a lot of innings,” Dipoto said.
He added, “We are not strangled by an overwhelming number of players who are limited in what they can do defensively, This puts us in a better position. It just gives us a roster that works.”
He further added, “It was very much a part of the plan, dating back to the start of this offseason and even as we were trailing toward the end of 2012, to keep as much of our young nucleus in place as possible.”
Along with Vargas, the Angels now possess the services of Tommy Hanson, Joe Blanton and Garrett Richards.
Vargas, who is coming from the Mariners, played the last season with consistent performances. He showed good and offensive plays and impressed many.
He finished the season on a high note achieving 3.85 ERA along with 14-11 win-loss, 141 strikeouts, 1.18 WHIP.
Not only one season’s consistent stats, Vargas has also career good numbers. He is currently playing with a career 4.35 ERA along with 42-50 win-loss, 530 strikeouts and 1.31 WHIP.
Earlier when this news came out in the media that Angels and Mariners are planning a trade but along with this news, many speculations also mounted that Los Angeles will send a reliever in exchange of Vargas but later it was revealed that Morales’ is leaving
the club.
Morales played the last season achieving hitting average of .273 along with 22 home runs, 73 RBIs and .320 OBP.
