Jason Waterhouse of Team Wildcat Austral leads Fantasea F18 Australian Championships 2011: Day 3
Team Wildcat Austral’s Jason Waterhouse performed well and retained his overall lead at the Fantasea F18 Australian Championships 2011, on Day 3 of the event. Jason finished the day’s races successfully on the top with nine points after eight races. Michael
Guinea of Nacra NQ finished second after him with 20 points, while Ullman Sails’ Dale Mitchell was on third place with 30 points.
The weather conditions were ideal with a shiny sun and light puffy clouds over the racing area. The wind was blowing around 12 to 14 knots with shifty gusts which made the race more exciting for the 22-boat F18 fleet.
The Day 3 of Fantasea F18 Australian Championships 2011 featured four races. Waterhouse took 1, 4, 1, 2 positions respectively in the races to finish on top of the standings. Nacra NQ’s Michael Guinea followed him with 3, 2, 2, 7 respectively and clinched
second place ahead of Dale Mitchell of Ullman Sails, who finished third with 30 points.
While speaking to local media at the end of Day 3, Waterhouse said, “The previous two days have been some of the toughest conditions we have sailed F18s in. The last three regattas where we have sailed the Hobie Wildcat have all be in flat water.”
He added, “But we do have plenty of time in the boat and it seems we have adapted better than anyone else. We’ve been hanging in there upwind and been pushing really hard downwind and this has been delivering us good results.”
