Jastrzebski Wegiel heads for gold medal match: FIVB Men’s Club World Championship
Jastrzebski Wegiel played a semi-final match with Sesi Sao Paulo of Brazil on Thursday, October 13, in the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship that is currently going on in Doha, Qatar. The contest between the two sides went on for five long and gruelling
sets at the end of which the Jastrzebski Wegiel club was able to secure itself a ticket into the final of the tournament.
The first set of the match was highly competitive with both the teams almost neck to neck with each other all the way through. However, it was the Jastrzebski Wegiel club that was able to earn the opening set win. The loss of the first set triggered the
right keys in the Sesi Sao Paulo club and they were able to equalise the match after bagging the second set. The third set was also secured by the Brazilian club impressively but the Jastrzebski Wegiel rebounded by taking the fourth set and going to win the
fifth won. By the time that Jastrzebski Wegiel was done, the final set scores showed the following figures: 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 25-13 and 15-13.
The coach of the KS Jastrzebski Wegiel club, Lorenzo Bernardi, made the following comments at the press conference after his team had won the match: “Today we lost a lot of energy, not only physically but also mentally. We hope we can recover quickly because
we haven't won anything yet. I always tell my players to be confident about our qualities and always have respect for your opponents. It doesn't matter against who we will play tomorrow, it will be a very strong team anyway.”
Coach Giovane Gavio of Sesi Sao Paulo expressed himself in the following manner: “Today's defeat was definitely caused by too many mistakes on our side. We have to forget this match and think of tomorrow in order to take the bronze medal to Brazil.”
The first set of the match saw Sesi Sao Paulo take the lead at 2-0 and managed to dominate with the coming of the second technical time out at 16-15. However, Jastrzebski Wegiel was able to dominate the set and earn a win at 25-23. The second set saw the
the Brazilian club take the lead early on and stick with the advantage till the end at 25-18. The third set followed a similar story, with Sesi Sao Paulo bagging a win at 25-19. However, the Jastrzebski Wegiel club smothered their opponents in the fourth set
and went on to win the fifth one at 25-13 and 15-13 respectively.
The player that was able to register the most points on both the sides was Wallace Martins of Sesi Sao Paulo who made his presence felt by putting up an impressive 25 points. On the other hand, the most points scored on the Jastrzebski Wegiel side was done
by Michal Lasko, who helped his team by tallying a total of 23 points in the entire match.
