Jaume Ferrer addresses allegations that Barcelona management mishandled money
Jaume Ferrer, vice-president under Joan Laporta of Barcelona's former board, gave interviews to
RAC1 and Ona FM in an attempt to refute allegations that the old management was overly extravagant in their spending,
which has now begun to hurt club's financial solvency.
"Sure, we made mistakes, but the balance is very positive," Ferrer said. "You only need to see how the club was in 2003, and how it was the admiration of all in 2010. There was nothing outside the normal management of a club
like Barcelona. We have not wasted money during the five years where I was treasurer and then vice-president. Every day we looked at the bills, and all expenses were natural to a football club. Everything was justified."
The newly appointed president of the club, Sandro Rosell, has made allegations that Laporta, the man Rosell replaced, and the previous board of directors, is responsible for the club's current financial insecurity
that currently has the reigning Spanish Champions locked in a series of legal proceedings.
Ferrer continued by addressing the situation with the board, stating,
"All of this is a joke, it has done much harm to my family. I called Rosell one week to ask him to explain the situation to me, and he did not return my call. It is sad to use the club to do harm to Laporta. There has been a
very strained interpretation of the issues. It is sad to see the best club in history be dragged through the courts."
Despite their recent troubles off the field, the Blaugrana have remained successful on the field, although they have not been quite as dominant as they were over the past few seasons.
Barcelona currently sit in second spot in La Liga, a single point back of league leaders Real Madrid.
