Hi,

I'm wondering which job title of Senior developer or Lead Developer is preferred if I want to advance a future career as Head of development or other managerial positions at that level.

  1. If I'm looking at resumes, the words LEAD leap out of the page.  You'll still need to describe what it was you lead, how many people were involved, and how the project turned out, but when in doubt, choose the job with more (acknowledged) responsibilities.

Not saying that a "Senior" position is chopped liver, but if you want to impress with your competence and show that you're able to take charge and move up, become the go-to guy of a project.  Just make sure you're not biting off more than you can chew.

  2. Definitely lead developer.
