http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 begins his stint as a batting consultant to lead Pakistani players to the World Cup
Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad began his stint as a batting consultant on Thursday where he spent the entire afternoon with Pakistan’s national cricket team in Gaddafi Stadium at Lahore.
The team got together to attend the training session to prepare for their upcoming tour of New Zealand in mid December where Miandad was brought in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to help the squad’s batting and fielding problems.
The former Test captain analyzed the players’ form and declared that the boys were in “fine tune” and that he would work a bit on their technique before they depart to the New zealand tour.
Miandad talked to the reporters after giving batting tips to limited-overs captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 saying that “it is wonderful to be back with the boys in the field.” He remained confident that the players would “tune their
batting techniques” before the important tour.
The former batsman would be working with the national squad for a week before the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 will be playing three Twenty20 matches, two Test match series and a six match One Day International
(ODI) series.
The PCB authorities want the newly-appointed consultant to travel to New Zealand with the team as the tour precedes the 2011 World Cup. A source in the PCB said that he was yet to decide on accompanying the team as he told the chairman of PCB, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128
that he would submit his decision in a few days.
When asked about PCB’s keenness to make him part of the touring squad, Miandad commented that he would definitely be useful as a batting consultant but he wasn’t sure if he could offer anything on tour.
Miandad dismissed rumours that he was unwilling to work under Pakistan’s current coach Waqar Younis saying that he does not have any “ego problem” and he is doing this for the love of the game and for his country.
Pakistan’s team manager Intikhab Alam welcomed the presence of the iconic player in the training camp stating that the day went out quite “satisfactory.”
Pakistan is also working towards finalizing their preparations for the World Cup as the PCB will decide the final squad after the team’s performance in New Zealand.
Intikhab added that the New Zealand series would be crucial for the limited-overs squad as it would help the selectors to pick the “best possible combination” for the coveted title.
