He believes that a coach single handedly can do nothing if players are not ready to uplift their games and perform to their potential. Miandad opines that it is entirely up to a cricketer how he defines and personates his role.
According to him, a team needs a cricket expert who can make judicious strategies for each and every fixture and give proper feedback to players. He thinks that a player, who successfully passes through the phases of domestic cricket, does not need to be
told how to hold the bat and how to throw the ball; he must be equipped with the mental toughness that a bona fide coach can never do.
Talking to the media today, Miandad, who himself had been a coach in the past, said, “I don't think there is a role for a coach in cricket but you can say a team needs a planner. Someone who can plan out strategies for each match and provide feedback to
the players and motivate them. I believe that in cricket it is eventually up to the player who he performs or delivers. No matter how much you coach or advice a player.”
He further said, “At this level what can you coach a player. But yes if you have a planner he can define a clear role for players and for every match.”
The former legendary batsman avers that a coach is needed in other sports like Football and Hockey, but cricket is a different mind game which requires a player to show his own natural style instead of a copied one.
