Javed Miandad will be DG cricket in Sri Lanka, not batting mentor, says Zaka Ashraf – Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chairman Zaka Ashraf on Saturday claimed that the veteran batsman, Javed Miandad has been sent to Sri Lanka in the capacity of PCB’s Director General Cricket to see into some team matters, and not as batting
consultant.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Championship, which gets underway in Hambantota on Tuesday, September 18, and will run until October 7.
Earlier this week, the former Test captain of Pakistan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 had revealed that he was heading to the Island nation to mentor the batsmen in the national team. However, the PCB chief has denied the reports and said that the veteran
batsman would not interfere in the practice sessions in Sri Lanka ahead of the marquee tournament, rather he would look into team matters.
"There appears to be some confusion on why Miandad has been sent to Sri Lanka to be with the team before the T20 World Cup,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 while speaking to the state sport’s channel,
PTV Sport.
“He has not gone there as a batting coach neither as a batting consultant, he has gone there as DG cricket to look into some team issues and talk to the players," the PCB chief clarified.
Ashraf, who took over as the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 in October last year, further said that the board management wanted the legendary batsman to be with the team during the mega event, and share his vast experience of playing in
the global tournaments to mentally prepare the players for the T20 showpiece.
The PCB chairman remained tight lipped when asked about the details of the team issue Miandad has been sent to address. However, sources from inside the Pakistan Cricket Board have claimed that the DG cricket has gone to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 to talk to captain Mohammad
Hafeez and coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, who are reportedly not very objective in their decisions.
"There have been complaints about Whatmore and Hafeez not being very objective in their decisions and indications are that Miandad has been given the task of clarifying the job description of everyone in the team," a source said.
Pakistan have been drawn in Group D, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, and will play tournament opener against the Black Caps, at Pallekele on September 23.
