The meeting, that involved numerous senior sports personalities, such as PCB Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595, Miandad and Afridi, was held in Karachi, earlier this week, during the President’s visit to the Sindh Province, in light of the recent floods, which affected the life and property of the people.
Apart from relocating the limited-overs event, the rendezvous was also expected to highlight the ongoing deadlock between Afridi and the Board; where the former skipper had planned on requesting the President to intervene into the matter, and allow Afridi’s comeback to the national squad.
To the all-rounder’s despair, it was learnt that Afridi walked off without Zardari having a word with him, despite attempts to raise the topic by other officials present on the meeting, which were all ignored by the President.
As for Miandad, who too is involved in a rift with the Board and its Chairman, managed to win something out of his notion, after Zardari finally agreed on shifting the national T20 competition from Lahore to Karachi, which according to the Premier will now also be used as a fund raiser for the flood victims.
“As desired by the president of Pakistan, the venue of the tournament has been shifted from Lahore to Karachi,” a PCB statement said.
Miandad, the current PCB Director for Cricket Affairs, also comprehended that the tournament will allow the cricket fraternity to raise funds for the flood victims, while for the teams, Karachi will allow the players to take the field without worry of the virus that has already claimed the lives of many.
