Javi Colomo shares the fourth position at the King’s Cup after day three
Javi Colomo of Spain fired another round of 65 on Saturday, to take the share of the fourth position, entering the final round of the King’s Cup.
The event is being played at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club, featuring some of the prominent names from different parts of the world.
Colomo, who has enjoyed a total of three top-10 finishes this season, started his final round campaign on the back nine of the course.
The Spanish rookie came flying out of the blocks by carding birdies on the 11th, 16th, 17th and the 18th hole, to reach the turn in four-under.
He then kept the momentum going into the front nine, and earned another three shots on to the third, fourth and the seventh hole.
Entering the final round, he was just three strokes behind the pace set by Mardan Mamat of Singapore, who carded a six-under par 66 for a 17-under par overall score.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he said that his accuracy with the putter was the main reason behind his success in the third round.
He also stated that he was feeling the pressure, while making his tee shots. However, the wideness of the fairways allowed him to regain his confidence with his driver.
“I like this golf course as the fairways are very open,” said Colomo, who posted rounds of 65, 72 and 65 in the first three rounds. “I’m not very confident with my driver but this course has allowed me to regain back my confidence. I’m improving from the
tees”.
He now plans to remain consistent on the remaining 18 holes left in the tournament, in a bid to taste success for the first time in his career.
Meanwhile, he also expressed his pleasure in recording decent finishes during his rookie season on the Asian Tour.
“Players usually want more and more but I think for myself, it has been a fantastic season for me on the Asian Tour this year,” said the Spaniard. The standards are very high on the Tour with many good players and to have such a result in my first year is
simply fantastic”.
