The Bayern Munich midfielder has insisted that his side will face a tough test against the Spanish side in the UEFA Champions League clash.
The Reds will take on Valencia in their opening Champions League group stage clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, September 19. The team has been drawn in Group F along with the likes of Valencia, Lille and BATE Borisov.
The Bavarian giants acquired the Spanish international from Athletic Bilbao earlier this summer for a reported fee of €40 million. The player has great experience of playing in the La Liga and has played against Valencia on a number
of occasions.
Martinez claimed that he knows Valencia very well and knows their attacking style as he has regularly played against them in Spain. The midfielder admitted that it will by no means be an easy task for his side as the Spaniards
are capable of anything on their day.
The defensive player warned his side against any complacency and insisted that the opposition can be deadly on counter attacks as they have extra-ordinary pace in their ranks.
“I know [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863] very well and I've played them quite a few times. They'll definitely push us hard because they have a great team. They're very balanced, they have plenty of pace, they put opponents under pressure, and they're
very well set-up tactically,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international is excited ahead of a prospective debut in the Europe’s premier club competition with Bayern Munich and wants to start on a winning note. He admitted that the Bavarians are certainly the favourites to win
this year’s competition and is hopeful of a successful season ahead.
“I've never played in the Champions League before. It's an important match for us. Bayern made it to the final last season, and we're among the favourites for the competition, so we obviously want to make a successful start,” he
concluded.
Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 has still not started a game for Bayern Munich since his summer move from Athletic Bilbao. The player has been involved in two cameo appearances for the side and is expected to play a role against Valencia.
