Javier Ballesteros follows his father in the profession of golf – Golf News
Javier Ballesteros is scheduled to tee off in the Spanish tour event, the Sant Cugat Club on April 26, 2012.
He is the son of the legendary Seve Ballesteros, who recorded a total of 91 victories during his professional career. At the age of 54, he died of brain cancer on May 7, 2011.
Javier is playing his first ever professional event and he chose the same course where his father made his debut in 1974. He is grouped with his countrymen, Pablo Larrazabal and Txomin Hospital.
According to him, he is not feeling any pressure of being the son of the great person in the world of golf.
He said that he has not yet given a thought on taking up the game professionally and is mainly focused on completing his law studies.
However, he still look excited after knowing that he will be playing the event on the same course where the great era of his father started.
He said that it was a great moment for him to know about the venue of the event, as he was greatly inspired by his father. He wishes to succeed in the same way as his father did in the world of golf.
Seve won a total of 50 events on the European Tour, a feat that no one else has ever achieved so far. Moreover, he registered a total of five major wins during his career.
In 1999, he was added to the World Golf Hall of Fame in respect of his great contributions to the game of golf.
Between 1976 and 1991, he was named the European Tour Order of Merit winner six times, as well as the European Tour Player of the Year thrice.
In 2000, the Golf Digest named him the 16th greatest player in the history of the game. The same year saw him introducing the Seve Trophy with a similar format to Ryder Cup, introducing Great Britain and Ireland team against one from continental Europe.
When he died in 2011, the European Tour officials held a moment of silence in his respect during the third round of the Open de España at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona.
