Javier Ballesteros wins the three-round amateur Madrid Open
Javier Ballesteros, son of late Seve Ballesteros, recorded a six-under par tournament score to win the three-round amateur Madrid Open.
Seve is regarded as one of the best players the game of golf has ever produced. He recorded a total of 50 European Tour victories in his career, prior to passing away last year at the age of 54.
In total, he added 91 professional titles to his resume during his 33-year career, including five major golf championship victories.
Moreover, he represented the European team in nine Ryder Cups and won four of them. Moreover, he also captained the team in 1997 and retained the trophy after defeating the US Ryder Cup team.
He also partnered with Jose Maria Olazabal, captain for the European team this year, four times in his career in the biennial event and won three of them.
Olazabal currently plans to retain the trophy this year, when his team will tee off at the Medinah Country Club, on September 28, 2012.
The golf followers do miss the legendary Seve’s performances on the course. However, Javier is trying to live up to his father’s position by displaying a good set of skills in different parts of the world.
According to the golf analysts, Javier has all that it takes to be a great golfer. He has already started proving his mettle on the Amateur forum.
Soon, he will come into the professional world and he is expected to follow his father’s footsteps, threatening his opponents in the field.
After winning the tournament on Sunday, he dedicated his victory to his father, who had to leave him in this world after suffering a cancerous brain tumour.
"My father always told me that you have to play with what you got, and that's what I did," 22-year-old Javier, a law student in the Spanish capital, was reported to have said by AP. "I thought about him a lot during the 18 holes and I dedicate this victory
to him and my mother”.
The golf commentators believe that Javier must seriously think about turning professional soon and try his luck in paid events too.
