The versatile midfielder joined Deportivo La Coruna from Villarreal on-loan in the 2012 summer transfer window and is ready to stake his claim for first team minutes.
Deportivo La Coruna scavenged what remained of Villarreal first team in the transfer window to procure Javier Camunas on a yearlong loan deal. Thus far, the experienced footballer has yet to take the pitch for the Turks but is adamant to prove his doubters
wrong.
Camunas shared that he understood when he signed for Deportivo that first team minutes will be hard to come by. He stated that coach Jose Luis Oltra wanted him in his ranks for the Primera Division campaign, but never allowed the idea of starting every game
settle in his mind.
Continuing on the topic, the 32-year-old remarked that he is confident in his abilities and will fight for a first team berth at the Riazor, something he has done at all of his previous employers.
“I believe in myself, as I always have done, and everywhere I've gone I have had to fight for my place,” Camunas declared.
“The club and the Coach [Jose Luis Oltra] made an effort to bring me here, but I know that does not mean that I will start every game.”
With Spanish top flight domestic competition coming to halt during the international break, Camunas shared that he is looking to improve his fitness, as well as understand what is asked off him by his new employers, the tactician and the teammates.
When quizzed about the position Oltra will likely try him out at, Camunas replied that he does not know about the role he is expected to fill at the Riazor.
“These two weeks will give me the chance to get to know what the Coach, the club and my teammates really want, and will also help me build my fitness.”
“As my fitness improves, so will my performance and so I think I should be up to 100 per cent next week.”
“I don't know if the Coach wants to do that, but it is not something I have done often in the past.”
