Javier Colomo happy with his campaign at the UBS Hong Kong Open
Javier Colomo faltered in the second round of the UBS Hong Kong Open for a one-over par 71, to share the sixth spot on the leaderboard, on Friday, November 16, 2012.
The Hong Kong Golf Club is the venue course for this week’s US$2 million tournament that is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour.
The Asian Tour rookie started off his Hong Kong Open campaign on a high note by sharing the lead on day one, following his impressive performance for a six-under par 64.
However, he failed to keep the momentum going into the second round and conceded three bogeys against only two birdies for a five-under par overall score. He now trails the halfway leader Michael Campbell by four strokes.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that his game from the tee to the green was amazing. However, he was not able to control his short game.
As a result, he failed to avail a number of birdie opportunities. Despite failing to retain his lead in the tournament, he was pleased with his overall performance in the first two rounds.
He said that he tried his best to remain in contention and fought hard against the strong winds that were blowing on the course.
“I played very solid from the tee again but I didn't have good luck on the greens because I didn't hole too many putts today,” he said.
“But I hit very good putts, but not lucky.  But I'm happy because I fight all the day today from the first hole, strong wind again, so very difficult”.
He added, “I'm very happy in that position.  I love feeling the pressure with all these star players here.  For me, it's very good to have the chance to beat the world No. 1 or other very, very great players”.
Michael Campbell, in the meantime, continued his revival of form in Hong Kong, as he carded seven birdies against a lone bogey, to post a six-under par 64 on the leaderboard.
At the end of the second round, he was leading Miguel Angel Jimenez, Fredrik Andersson Hed and Zhang Lian-Wei by one stroke.
