Javier Hernandez: Don’t compare me with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has played down comments made by Sir Alex Ferguson comparing him to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Hernandez scored the winner against West Brom to award Man United all three points on an off-coloured day. No player in a shirt has scored more than Solskjaer off the bench and Hernandez is now being compared to the a true Reds Legend. Yet, the Mexican doesn’t
want to be linked to such an amazing player in his first season at the club and would need to be on his top all the time to come close to such a player. The 22 year old claimed that it is a huge motivation for him to be linked to such a legendary player but
he doesn't come near him yet.
Ferguson’s comments, however, have some weight in them. The story of Solskjaer and Hernandez is similar as both arrived at United as strangers to the World, scored on their respective debuts and found the back of the net almost at will. Hernandez has already
earned the tag of a super-sub, a name which Ole Gunnar made famous for himself in his 11 years at Manchester United. It may be impossible for Hernandez to reach the 28 goal mark Solskjaer managed off the bench but the current goal scoring form of Chicha may
lead the Mexican challenging that mark.
The winner against West Brom was Hernandez’s 5th one in 12 substitute appearances for Manchester United and the player was delighted to play some part in United’s title chase this season.
“The win [at West Brom] was very important. We knew it would be difficult but we’re very happy because we’ve started the year with a victory. They did well to score and they had another opportunity with the penalty kick,” stated Hernandez.
“They missed, which was good for us because we knew we could go on and win the match. If they scored we would have been a goal down and that would have been more difficult,” explained the 22 year old forward.
