Javier Marti crushes Anton Zaytsev to move into final round qualies – Palermo Challenger 2011
Javier Marti, a prolific teenager, outclassed Anton Zaytsev in their first ever encounter in the opening round of the 2011 Palermo Challenger on Sunday, 2nd October. Marti grabbed the match winning both sets comprehensively
with a score of 6-1 each taking a total of 49 minutes. The Spaniard dominated the show and outplayed the Russian on all frontiers.
The Spaniard was on the top of the game from the start. He outclassed the Russian in every department and was not willing to provide any chance for Zaytsev to settle. Marti managed to win 2 points with service aces and lost just
one on a double fault compared to zero aces and 3 double defaults from his counterpart.
Marti’s consistency was obvious by the fact that he managed to win points with an accuracy of 74% and 71% on his first and second serve respectively. Zaytsev, on the other hand, could only manage to win just one-fourth of his first
serve points.
The Spaniard’s technique and skill was very fluent and his form totally dismantled the game play of Zaytsev. Zaytsev could just see points flow of Marti’s racket and was clue less. Marti just continued to win game after game and
the concern on the face of Zaytsev was clear. The encounter ended as a one-sided affair with Marti being the showstopper. He entered the match as a favorite due to his massive lead in the world ranking over Zaytsev and proved why he is in the list of top 200
ATP tennis players. He had complete control over the match throughout and his guile with drop shots was one of the most fascinating moves to watch.
As opposed to the Russian, Marti was as good with return points as he was with his serve points. He managed to win 15 out of 20 first break points and had a comprehensive 61% conversion ratio of second break points. Zaytsev played
his part but was unable to provide something competitive for the viewers. He couldn’t even manage to win handsome points on his serves either and was tamed throughout the match by his counterpart.
Marti maintained an immense ratio of points won to totally points throughout the match and ended up winning 71% of the total points and grabbing the spot in the next round against Serbian Boris Pashanski. Marti is ranked 193 in
ATP world’s tennis rankings. He is a very promising act and he will definitely jump up the ranks if he continues his splendid form in upcoming tournaments.
