Javier Marti moves past Boris Pashanski into the main draw – Palermo Challenger 2011
Spaniard Javier Marti battled his way into the main draw of the 2011 Palermo Challenger on Monday, 3rd October after doing away with Boris Pashanski bouncing back from a set down. The match lasted for two hours and forty
five minutes and in the end Marti came out as a tougher competitor as he secured a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 win over the Serb, making his way into the first round of the ATP Challenger event.
Crowd was shocked with the first set game as Marti was given an intense competition by his counterpart who managed to sneak through the first set with a score of 6-4. This opened doors for enthralling battle between Marti and Pashanski
for the coming sets.
Both players had similar statistics in the first set but Pashanski was able to steal those crucial game points that enabled him to take the first set. The Serb had a slightly better ratio of winning points on his 1st and
2nd serves and also lead his way in return points scenario. Viewers saw a scintillating encounter and were ecstatic to see more.
Although trailing in the set score, Marti was not prepared to go down without a fight, perhaps even win. Bouncing back in the second set, the Spaniard pushed the set into a tiebreaker. It was a long hard fought battle during the
tie breaker and in the end Marti was able to snatch a point from the tiring Pashanski. The overall play by the Spaniard was better than his first set display and his ratio in serves and break point were better than his competitor. Winning the tiebreaker 7-5,
Marti was able to bring the set score to a set win a piece.
The third set was unexpectedly one-sided. Marti showed his stamina and class and outclassed Pashanski by taking the set 6-1 and securing a berth in the main draw of the event. Pashanski gave a tough fight and was very close in
performing an upset but Marti used his skill and guile to turn it around in his favour.
