Javier Marti stuns Horacio Zeballos in the semi-finals – Villa Allende Challenger 2012 CH
Right-hander, Javier Marti, confidently gave his Argentinean rival, Horacio Zeballos, a three-set shocker in the semi-finals of the Copa Agco Cordoba 2012 held at the courts of Villa Allende, Argentina. He summed up his 6-3, 5-7,
6-4 win on the eve of Saturday.
The 27-year-old Argentinean commenced the match with a powerful serve and secured the initial game; bring up the score line to 1-0. Instantly, the score line levelled down to 1-1 all in the second and then 2-2 in the fourth game.
The Spanish contender cashed his rival’s serve in the fifth game and marked a 3-2 lead in the game. After that point, Zeballos completely lost his momentum and his rival jumped forward to terminate the opener with a 6-3 lead.
World number 198, Marti, had 56 percent first serve accuracy, converting nine of 14 first and eight of 11 second delivery points. He won two of four break points but the other side was unable to grab any. The Argentinean senior
secured 16 of 21 first and five of 17 second delivery points.
In the second set, the left-hander Argentinean professional started to fire back his challenger with his powerful serves, displaying his experience. Although, the score line evened out after every alternate game, but he smashed
dominant backhands and converted net volleys into exquisite cross-courts winners. He cashed the lone break opportunity, clinching the last two games swiftly and terminated the set with a 7-5 lead.
In the final set, the two participants held their initial serves and gave each other a tough competition. The 20-year-old, Marti, grabbed the opportunity and broke his rival’s serve in the sixth game. His competitor responded but
was unable to cash the opportunity. The Spanish right-hander eventually concluded the set with a 6-4 win.
The left-hand Argentinean senior secured 62 percent, bagging away 17 of 26 first and seven of 16 second delivery points. He was unable to secure the lead as he just bagged away one of seven serve breaks and his contender attained
two of eight. The Spanish professional had 71 percent initial serve with 19 of 29 points.
