Javier Mascherano aims to leave Liverpool to join Barcelona
After failure to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona aim to sign another midfielder. Fabregas recently committed his future to the North London club, at least for this season. The summer long transfer finally came to an end, with Fabregas committing his future with the premier league club.
Javier Mascherano currently plays for Liverpool, but after another trophy-less Season at Anfield, the Argentine confessed it’s time to move. The midfielder failed to commit his future with the Merseyside and wished to move to some other club. The player fancies Barcelona, for a fee worth around half what the Spanish giants were willing to pay for the Arsenal Captain. Mascherano’s agent claimed that the midfielder has not renewed his contract with Liverpool and the club promised to assist the player to which ever club he wished to play with. The agent added that the situation was very friendly and much easier than what is was in the last few years.
Liverpool finished 7th in the Premier League last season, with manager Rafael Benitez being sacked following such a poor performance. Benitez took over at the vacant manager post at Inter Milan, where Jose Mourniho left the club to join Real Madrid. The player has been linked to a move to his “mentor” Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan. Mascherano is expected to leave Liverpool soon as he is not part of the Reds plans for the coming season, with new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson attempting to sign Christian Poulsen from Juventus. The Argentinean captain however aims to join his team mate Lionel Messi at Barcelona.
Liverpool centre back, Daniel Agger believes Poulsen will be a perfect addition to the Reds for the coming season and would do wonders at the club. Christen Poulsen has reportedly been offered a 3-year contract by Hodgson and has thus withdrawn from his national side Denmark’s squad for the friendly against Germany. Hodgson has worked with Poulsen at his time with FC Copenhagen back in 2000 and was the manager who brought the player to the club in the first place.
Liverpool centre back, Daniel Agger has played with Poulsen in Denmark’s national team and praised the 30-year olds ability."Christian would be a perfect addition to most of the big clubs in Europe, so he will certainly fit in here", stated Agger. The player added that great things can be expected from Poulsen, who is a top quality player and would only make the club stronger. The centre back claimed that Liverpool needs big signings in order to re-establish itself back into the top four and Poulsen is one of those players who can help the team achieve its former glory.
The defender praised the midfielder’s ability and admitted that signing Christian would improve the team overall. Agger, however, claimed that players need to keep on coming to Anfield, if they aim to make it to the top.
Agger couldn’t feature in Liverpool’s Europa league match against Rabotnicki, which Liverpool won 2-0. The player suffered from a back injury which kept him out of the match, but has fully recovered. Daniel Agger, however, believed that Poulsen would need a lot more time to adapt to the pace of English football as the midfielder has spent many years playing in the Serie A in Italy.
Agger, however, expected Poulsen to be a like for like replacement for the departing Argentine captain Javier Mascherano. While talking to Liverpool Echo, the defender stated that Christian would need to adapt quickly to the pace of the game and will need to get used to the unusually high speed of the Premier League. Poulsen has had impressive seasons all around Europe, as he has played in Spain, Germany and Italy, and Agger therefore expects to gain more success at Liverpool.
Liverpool face Arsenal at home in their opening fixture of the new season and need to be tight from the opening minute of the new season. The 18-time English champions would need to gain back the top four spot in order to retain their star players next season.
