Javier Mascherano disappointed after the Sevilla clash
The Argentinean star was disappointed after Barcelona only managed to pick one point against Sevilla at the Nou Camp. Barcelona had to win the game in order to keep the top spot in La Liga’s points table. However, the visitors managed to defend strongly
at the Catalan fortress and held Barcelona to a goalless draw.
Barcelona were the favourites to win the home game against Sevilla. However, Sevilla played a defensive formation against the Spanish Champions and held them to a goalless draw.
Players like Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 had a chance to win it for Barcelona late into the game when Andres Iniesta was brought
down into the penalty area and Barcelona won a penalty kick. However, the Argentinean maestro couldn’t find the back of the net and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 only managed to pick one point from a tricky home fixture.
Javier Mascherano played as a centre back throughout the game against Sevilla. With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carles-Puyol-c8331 both not fully fit to perform for the Catalan club, Josep Guardiola decided to field Eric Abidal and Javier Mascherano in the three-man defence.
Barcelona did not concede a single goal in the game and Mascherano was on his toes throughout the night. Despite keeping a clean sheet, the Argentinean was disappointed at the fact that his side couldn’t pick up all three points. Barcelona are always expected
to score in home fixtures. So far, Barcelona have only played 14 games under Josep Guardiola in which the Catalans have not scored a single goal – the game against Sevilla was one of those fixtures.
After the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Mascherano-c18071 was questioned about the game and he said:
“It’s a strange feeling – disappointment at not getting three points, but satisfaction at knowing we did everything right. We played as we always do – attacking for almost the whole game.”
The Argentinean further added to his comments by talking about competition in La Liga this season. He said:
“It might have seemed easy to win the league last year if you were looking from the outside, but it certainly wasn’t and the other players have told me that the previous titles were just as hard to win.”
Barcelona will now be in action against Granada on Tuesday, and Josep Guardiola is going to try and boost his team’s morale in the easy away fixture.
